A natural look is what most of us want. You want a subtle look, but still with some pop of colour. A natural makeup look can also be called the no-makeup look. I know it’s weird, right? You want to have makeup on, but not so much that it looks like you have makeup on. You’re probably wondering “how am I going to achieve that”.
It is totally in contrast to what you find on Instagram beauty pages, with all those full bridal looks. It is like finding a balance between ‘I woke up like this’ skin with bushy brows and a well put together look. It requires a decent amount of makeup and a few steps. It’s pretty easy if you follow the steps below;
Steps to Achieving a Natural Makeup Look
Prep your skin
We all know that natural makeup look is all about making one’s natural skin more glowy. So, the best way to achieve that is by having natural skin that glows. Let’s face it, not all of us can have skin that glows naturally. As much as we all would like to, sadly we can’t, but we can fake it till we make it- at least in the world of beauty. So, begin by applying a thin layer of moisturizer on your skin. It keeps your skin hydrated and supple and makes it easy to apply makeup smoothly.
Use your Primer
This is the easiest way to achieve a smooth base for a simple natural makeup look. Choose the right primer that best suits your skin type. Apply a generous amount to certain areas on your face, like your forehead, jaw, bridge of the nose, and a little on your cheeks. Remember not to overdo it, just a little in these areas goes a long way.
Easy on the coverage
Avoid heavy to full coverage foundations, as it gives you the opposite of what you want. The main idea is to look subtle and natural, and not look fully made up. Apply light to medium coverage foundation for that perfect balance. You can apply tinted moisturizer, BB or CC creams, as this will give your skin some extra hydration. It will also keep your makeup from day into night, and allow some of your freckles to show through. Nothing screams natural more than a few freckles on the cheeks.
If you’re still not used to letting your blemishes or dark circles go uncovered, use a lightweight, hydrating concealer. Blend with your fingers or a beauty sponge– the warmth of your skin makes it easy to melt right in and for the skin to absorb. Choose a concealer that is one to two shades lighter than your natural foundation. With this, your makeup stays intact all through the day and into the night.
Less powder, more cream
To get a more natural makeup look, use more cream-based products after applying your foundation and concealer. For instance, your blush or bronzers. This makes everything easy to blend. Don’t worry about duration, the setting spray is your friend.
Bushy brows
This one is perfect for someone who hates to make arches on the brows. Whether your brows are bushy or unruly, you don’t need to get discouraged as the law of natural makeup accepts both. All you need is your spoolie and brow gel and brush your brows up lightly with some gel. You can make them a bit more defined by applying some concealer beneath if you wish.
Mascara
It’s not compulsory to apply mascara, but having some on lengthens your lashes. It makes them look more lush and fuller, and the best part, you still get to have that natural makeup look. You can decide to use mascara or not, you’d still look great either way.
Lips
Finish the natural makeup look with a nude lipstick that compliments your skin tone. You can also go for lip gloss, as this gives a more natural look.

This is cool. But I have always been scared of cream powder like I would come out like Ojuju.
Less powder! More cream…. noted!
